How to Turn Your Smoothie into a Smoothie Bowl and Stay Cool

Turning your smoothie into a smoothie bowl is a fantastic way to stay chill and suffice your cravings.  It not only will help fill you up with nutrients but the combinations of textures and colors provide plenty of appeal to the senses.  If you are carving ice cream, why not try a frozen yogurt version for your Smoothie bowl. The smooth thicker texture topped with a variety of fruits, nuts, seeds, and other healthy addons. AND yes, a drizzle of chocolate sauce or honey works too!  Here’s how you can easily make a smoothie bowl and keep cool:

Tip:  #1 You can make these ahead and keep frozen or chilled depending on the texture you desire.

#2  If you store your yogurt upside down in the fridge (on a dripping tray), it will last longer ;)--this works for cottage cheese too which by thy way can be the base for savory smoothie bowl!

Basic Steps to Make a Smoothie Bowl

  1. Use Less Liquid:

When making a smoothie bowl, use less liquid than you would for a traditional smoothie. This helps achieve a thicker consistency. Start with about half the usual amount of liquid (such as almond milk, coconut water, or juice).

  1.   Add More Frozen Ingredients:

To achieve a thicker texture, use frozen fruits and vegetables. Common choices include frozen berries, bananas, berries, mangoes, and even avocado spinach or kale.

  1. Include a Thickening Agent:

Adding ingredients like Greek yogurt (frozen yogurt works too), avocado, or a spoonful of nut butter can help thicken your smoothie.

  1. Blend and Adjust:

Blend your smoothie, starting on low speed and gradually increasing to high. If the consistency is too thin, add more frozen fruits or a handful of ice cubes. If it’s too thick, add a splash of liquid.

  1. Pour and Top:

Pour your thick smoothie into a bowl and top with your favorite ingredients. Popular toppings include fresh fruits, granola, nuts, seeds, shredded coconut, and a drizzle of honey and or nut butter.

  1.   Use Frozen Fruits and Veggies:

  1. Chill Your Bowl:

Place your bowl in the freezer for a few minutes before adding your smoothie to keep everything extra cool.

  1. Incorporate Hydrating Ingredients:

Use ingredients with high water content like watermelon, cucumber, or coconut water to keep hydrated and cool.

  1. Stay Hydrated:

Pair your smoothie bowl with infused water. Add slices of cucumber, mint leaves, or frozen berries to a glass of water for a refreshing drink.
